Lots of people don’t know where to find poetry, what to expect from poetry nights and as poetry gets so little coverage it is hard to find reviews of previous nights.
I go to a lot of poetry nights so in this section I will give you pointers for where to find poetry in your area, reviews of nights I have been too and random info I come across.
This is not intended to be comprehensive or impartial. If you would like me to link to your website, get in touch/make a comment, If you would like me to review your night, get in touch too.
A great website for finding poetry events mostly in the UK but also the world is writeoutloud, under gig guide you can find a calender of events really well organised by date. Anyone can post an event here and they get 2 million hits a month so if your a promoter, use it, if your a punter cross reference the info with something else like facebook or myspace because it can be out of date, but generally reliable!
If you are a poet you can post your profile on the writeoutloud site. They also do news and reviews here’s one about my Hitchhiker’s Guide to Poetry that I did in Oct 2009.
You can find Apples and Snakes events on their site as well as get them to feature your profile as they have with mine. They also offer useful workshops usually free of charge!
Poetry Kapow also have an events calendar!

nice blog you have here. thumbs up
Catherine, I am so looking forwards to meeting you, and hearing you perform, at Hit the Ode, in Birmingham. I have a monthly “what’s on” guide on Radio Wildfire which comprehensively covers Spoken Word live events in the Midlands:http://www.radiowildfire.com/listen/#
“Behind the arras” , which I co-edit,provides a comprehensive Midlands reviews service:
