Before Lent to give you courage

Before we had ASDA or Morrison
And now we don’t know hunger
Pancakes marketed to the consumer
As a fun and friendly day
Not the harbinger of dismay
40 days of lay away
Until the Easter orgy
Now eggs are in the shops
Before we’ve put forward clocks
Religion used these festivals
To sell us irrefutables
Like Jesus, God and Mary
Now it promotes excess dairy
